Lari is injured

You don't need a kick up the ar*e, you need a break, and a bloody great hug.

I really hope you get some respite from all the rubbish that life is throwing at you.
Thank you.

Mum's CT scan still not in from this morning but I spoke to one of the doctors and they don't feel at this stage they would operate due to her dementia.

I'm angry that I'm getting two stories from the care home about what happened.

I agree! Same leg as partner. I was getting excited at the thought of him going back 'home' - I call it home, it's the livery yard where my stable is being held. It is home really, been there on and off twenty years nearly.

He'd be better off at 'home' physically because he'd be more 'pampered' as he'd be partly stabled, whereas at retirement he's out 24/7 but with his mates in the retirement place he's mentally better off I feel. It's a hard one.

If he was at home when i got my next horse it would be nice to keep two in the same paddock and save myself a fortune on turn out/bring in's when I could do it myself and they could keep each other company, but my paddock isn't really big enough for two big lads really.

My friend, whose horse I used to turn out & bring in so they'd have company next door to each other (to save us both costs) has left the yard.
Hope I,m not speaking out of turn here but ATM it seems that you could just for a while think of yourself and getting the most pleasure from Lari. I would probably think out in a field with mates was better normally but he has had abscesses, kicks etc. Maybe a more pampered life would be good for him.

Having been there and most definitely got the T shirt on the mum, care home, falls, UTI and dementia stuff it is possible this could go on for a long time.
If the yard is your second home it may give you some relief as things get worse and may lessen the worry as to Lari getting an abscess etc.
just a thought.

I am so sorry to read of all your problems - your really are having it all thrown at you at the moment. No wonder you feel like running away at times!

It is good to hear Lari has probably just aggravated his bone bruise - hopefully a few days of not acting like a 2y/o will sort him out, with the help of some bute.

It is a difficult decision re taking him back to his 'pamper' yard. It will give you more work to do, although physical work can be mental thereapy, and you would enjoy having him around, it would add pressure to your day to day routine.

There is also the fact that you have said he can struggle to settle once moved or to ire-integrate into the herd. It sounds like his retirement place is lovely, with a clued-up owner. Yes, he has had issues there, but as you say, this is part of him being a retired with horse with issues in the first place. In your place, which I am not, I might be tempted to leave him where he is, at least until some of your other crises have abated. At least you know his needs are met, and you don't have to be there twice a day - although he still is there for you if you need him He owes you, the spoilt daft lummox .

Mostly though, take time for yourself, to have a breathe, to acknowldege that you are doing a bloody brilliant job in really shitty circumstances.
