Hi

Not having done either I am looking of the possibility of following Somerley with either of the above, which is the best in your opinions and why?

Thanks

SOE is pretty big!
the sjing will be built very very upto height (brian lear)
lol!
went with someone to do intro last year at larkhill and walking the course everything looked very inviting!

would probo choose SOE as the walk isnt 10000000 miles to the xc like larkhill lol!!!
good luck either way

If it was me I would choose Larkhill ( well it helps that Ive been there 1000's of times!!) you can have a good old gallop round the XC and they are good hunting fences, you can get a good rythym going. Showjumping is not too daunting and is straightforward.

I did the JRN at South of England a few times, remember it well as it was my first ever novice and we came 9 th! ( never happend again tho! ) SJ was HUGE and looked scary, the XC was OK I think. an OK course, a little twisty in places.

Only thing about Larkhill, it is like the antartic there, with the cold wind, and as someone said, you have to walk miles to everything- so make sure that you are well wrapped up!

No help im afraid as we have no experiance of these things.
Just wanted to say thank you for your post about PF clinic and looking away from the fence then back again, have been trying it out with pony, and it has improved us by about a billion percent! Stops me from stuffing him up, and everytime i do it we get a good jump! Im so chuffed!

SJ at SOE is big and atmospheric. XC is fairly straightforward with a couple of big steps to skinnies and a big pallisade ditch. The first water was influential last year with a turn to a corner coming out. Many had to circle here. Luckily pony found it easy (sometimes it pays to be small)

Larkhill xc is very easy and straight forward. SJ is on the side of the hill and causes lots of poles on the floor. and everything is miles away!!! wasn't cold there last year.
Sorry never been SOE

I did Larkhill intro last year and really liked the venue, my friend did the Novice and I didnt think it looked too bad, dressage very flat and spacious and sj on very slight hill. Lovely venue imo

Im going to SOE and was going to do it as my first Novice this year but due to a couple of problems schooling I have entered the OPN. Prob didnt need to know though! So will prob run Nov at Nurstead, we will see though!

I love SOE its close (ish) to me and think is a lovely course, I personally think the XC course isnt too bad, but agree SJing is up to height

I would vote for Larkhill over SoE - absolutely fantastic old turf at Larkhill, slightly hunter-trially feel about it, but in a good way. I did SoE last year and neither horse gave me a great ride, they also have a coffin that caused a few problems (mainly because people turned too sharply into it and their horses saw the ditch after the first element too late). The show-jumping wasn't very big at the spring event, and had no treble, which I think was because the ground was absolutely rock hard in the ring.

I love both these events, it's such a shame they're on the same weekend. I've chosen to go to SoE because it'll save a fortune in diesel. I find the xc courses of a similar standard but prefer SoE because it has a more compact layout, a bar, good food and good toilets! Also Larkhill are very slow to put scores up which is a pain if you've got a 2 hour drive home.

I don't think you'll be disappointed which ever one you choose.

Thank you all

I think I am swaying towards Larkhill, will make my mind up after the run tomorrow, would be a little further but have never been there and love to go to new places
