As title says, my last one this year; 2009 eventing season finished
If you are planning to see all the vids and pics, grab a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon, some dark chocolate, ...and relax
Sorry Ive been away this last week; was too busy with the competition
My first CCI* with the young boy (5 years old). Very excited UncleJr, all my expectations were on this last comp. Dressage on Friday, XC on Saturday, and SJ on Monday.
He didnt behave that well on Fridays dressage; he was very distracted. However, we made quite a decent test, improved in some movements, nice medium trot, very good walk, and quite good canters
Got a -59.1, and were placed 10th out of 22 competitors.
It rained on Friday, so we had to wait until FEI delegate inspected the course once more, and gave authorisation for starting at noon. After that, I checked ground, arrivals, landings, etc... again. Ground was not so bad, so decided to give it a go.
Bearing in mind that it was very hot, muddy, and it was his first time running this longer distance with higher and more complicated/technical fences, I decided to not push him so hard, and just let him gain experience. Course time was 802 at 520 m/m, with 23 fences 1.10m high.
I decided for only 2 easier (and longer) options which took us some more time to make the whole course; 12(a) a corner, and 13(a) a big log with high brush with a drop after; I know some experienced horses have had refusals in this fence, so decided not to take an unnecessary risk.
After fence 19, I decided to slow down and let him recover, as there were interesting demands on a combination of fences 21abc and 22, which you will see in one of the xc videos.
He made a beautiful course, so honest all the time, made things so easy, I really enjoyed every second
However, I rode every fence as if I had had a previous refusal; too many new fences and combinations, skinnies, strange corners with strange things with flowers on top, etc...; all new for him.
We made it clear in fences, but 32 seconds after the time, only 2 competitors made it before the 8 2.
I was absolutely delighted with his performance. Definitely a very productive day!
Partially placed 8th after the xc
...3, 2, 1, GO!!!
Fences 8b, 9, 10, 11ab, and 12ab.

Good Boy!
Checking heart and breathing rates
SJ was on Monday afternoon. Nice round, we had fence Nº 2 down, ...so did 19 of the 22 competitors. There was something that made the horses touch that fence...

He definitely deserves a good rest now
