Last year I had an Irish clip on Bomber in Nov - when he lost his winter coat the clipped bit looked lovely straight away when he started shedding his coat- the rest of him was hideous - I thought I would die from grooming with the amount of fur on him (have asthma). I was wondering what is the latest I could give him an all over clip was without ruining his summer coat? TBH he doesn't do enough work to warrant an all over clip now and I would like to leave it as late as possible so that he doesn't get cold.

I do a last clip end of Feb/first week in March then they grow a lovely summer coat for showing.

ETS: Won't the short moulting hair be worse for you then long hair though? Is for me.

Does it matter if they have started shedding their winter coat?

I tend to clip the minute they start to shed - normally late January/ early February.

Mine are already done - all apart from below the knees/hocks and I am hoping that this will do them until the spring when Cairo will need clipping for the summer.

Have always clipped right through till March/April and it makes no difference whatsoever to the summer coat.

Have also had show cobs clipped out all year round and they also grow lovely coats whenever they are clipped. They only get clipped again as there legs are too hairy for showing and its easier to clip them out totally then just try to tidy the legs and fade it in with the unclipped bits!!
