Visited a nice pony today new forestx(after reading about weight carriers and NF) would have made nice mother and daughter share..but far too small for me AGAIN(I am now not looking at small chunky things and are banning these from my viewings in future) although it would have carried my weight I just didnt feel right on it.....so the search continues!

The lady knew I was looking as she had sold another pony that I contacted her about, persuaded me to come along. So I am now off to the recommended dealer as I have just spent another Saturday morning cost of disel etc 120mile trip so thats it.......I have finished with adverts! I am starting to feel like that Joy rider that I have read about...?

Only positive was that the seller was v honest (so I can increase my honest seller number to 3).

Once I manage to find a horse I cant wait to put a picture on here for all to see!!

Thanks for all the support but I will be back and will be back with more stupid questions no doubt! The dog will have more walk time and OH will be pleased that I am not on computer anymore! I wil be back!!

Sorry to be a bore but my old boy is 14.1h and like a tank. I think I have forgotten that not all 14.1 are built like him. He really is a beefy heavy shouldered armchair ride. But retired.

I think a 14.2-15.2 would be more ideal but not too fine etc. I am sure I will know. I have tried this size already and this does realistically seem a more ideal height for me.

I am not in a rush fortunately but its just the frustration of time used to view. I only looked at 5 when I bought my first horse but I dont know if 14 approx is a record???? Is it?????

Anyhow horse searching is becoming boring the highs & lows!

I recently went through the same pain.... my old lad is 14.2 but quite chunky (quote from saddle fitter out recently 'just LOOK at the size of his shoulders!!') and he rides and moves more like a 15hh horse.... I did see a few that were far more 'pony-like' in their movement.

I just had a quick count and quickly got up to 15 viewings, some good, some bad, my problem was that I didn't really have a clear idea of what I wanted. I now have a lovely mare, but still not 100% sure she it the right one long-term, but is very sweet.

Stick to your guns, and don't just buy one that ticks the boxes, wait for the one that will gladden your heart. :)

i know how you feel, i was looking recently and would have had a 14.2hh as a minimum as long as it was full up and chunky; eg not 14.1 trying to be 14.2hh or 14.2hh at the wither with the back of a 13.2hh:rolleyes: It's really hard to ascertain on the phone sometimes from sellers exactly how big in reality the pony rides. I really wanted a big overgrown pony but with a decent stride on it, not choppy pony movement. I went for a 15hh chunky connemara in the end who actually rides bigger than my 15.2hh did, his shoulders are massive, that helps ;)!

Ive way exceeded 14 in horse hunting im afraid, im a real veteran :0 but then Im always looking for something very specific and am not too willing to compromise so make it harder for myself. My best advice would be to arrange a weekend away somewhere and try to book in as many to see in one area as you can. I found my lad after a weekend away in yorkshire and saw 9 horses in 2 days! Some private and a few dealers yards. I always said Id never go to a dealer again and some of what i saw confirmed that, as we walked, read*ran* from some yards in horror, however I admit I did get mine from a dealer in the end , they arent all bad.

Its so hard to try and get the right horse, especially if you arent blessed with the time/ability to work through issues you hadnt thought would be there ;) I seem to change horses more often than some change their socks, lol, but I dont regret any of it. Im not 21 anymore with years ahead of me to achieve what I want to. So Id say as well that sometimes no matter how hard you try and how right you think the horse you are buying is for you, sometimes it becomes apparent that they arent and i have no shame in admitting that and moving on, lol - hence ive lost count of the number of viewings ive done, eek!
