I've never started one of these before and couldn't see one.

Plans started today as had a fab lesson, I'm beaming 😄 our circles and leg yields in walk are really coming on. Worked on some gears in trot and popped a few canter strides in when it felt nice and forward and flowing. She offered a stonking almost extended trot 😅. She really is lovely to ride even though she finds bending difficult and tiring she was really trying. Lots of distractions barrels making weird noises and horses coming and going but she stayed right with me. Third lesson in a row now I've felt like I could really ride rather than just managing both our anxieties. She picks things up very quickly. To think at the end of April I still had to lead her everywhere in her bridle and she spooked at the letter H and decked me.

We can also stand still! Even whilst I walk around her and faff about! Good Mrs Bustle 😄Screenshot_20230629-164607-444.png
Just hacking for the rest of the weekend now. The next challenge will be after I've been away for work for a week will we maintain the halo 😇

Well done Cloball! Sounds very positive!!

I am heading to Eland Lodge for some show-jumping. But can I start my weekend early with an SJ lesson at Somerford? It felt like a real milestone lesson as in the SJ arenas at Somerford all the jumps are always left at 1m. You had to put them back to a metre at the end of the session. Not that long ago I just could not fathom how anyone jumped that height and wondered why they chose such a ridiculous height to be their standard height. And at yesterday's lesson we did not have to adjust the jumps! (Well apart from to warm up!)

She's so pretty cloball, and I'm so pleased that things are coming together for you both! 🙂

No plans this weekend except attending uni open days with youngest daughter.

We had a fantastic time at the RC polework clinic on Tuesday though!

He started off very boingy and bouncy but the instructor convinced me to let him have a good, long power trot to settle him, which did the trick.

Once he'd settled, he worked really hard and did everything asked of him. We did lots of trotting over raised poles, and we even had raised poles on a semi circle and used the last pole to strike off in to canter.

Really good fun though we were both very tired afterwards. I have vids that I'm not brave enough to show!VideoCapture_20230629-195127.jpgIMG-20230627-WA0002.jpg

Started today with a dressage lesson. It was windy and there was a horse jumping in the neighbouring arena. BH was distracted but, after I rode him in a very direct manner, he did good work.

XC schooling tomorrow on a lesson. He wasn't the most confident last week so we are going to work on that.

Today was disappointing (and not at Nova, but at myself). I took her to a, what I assumed would be, quiet casual dressage competition to just baby her through an intro. I had probably got too complacent with how bloomin’ amazing she has been at home.

She was just like a firecracker the moment I got her off the trailer. It didn’t help that her field buddy came with us - they decided last minute to enter and I couldn’t really say “I will travel separately”, but I think I will from now on. I didn’t realise the warm up would be in their indoor and Nova has never been in an indoor, so this probably didn’t help either. She just wanted to run off, which was fine - I kept moving her and giving her things to think about. Then she just bronced and bronced until I fell off.

I managed to get back on and go in the boards for a walk round but not how I wanted today to go. Obviously, in hindsight, I would’ve taken her on her own to a very quiet venue. So just feeling disappointed and mad at myself

I decided to follow HHO Tackroom advice and be less upright in my jumping position and give more with my hands. It’s an absolute winner, forum advice.

I shouldn't like this, but your horse is really trying to resolve the impending disaster, right? Happens to us all!!!

You can’t leave us in suspense - what happened next?!

Indio’s back under my care as his loaner has given him up. An old friend is visiting this weekend so we’ll take the two older Spanish boys for a hack. Also catching up with my dressage trainer for lunch tomorrow so I guess that counts as horsey 😝

Chilli’s looking a lot better but with two other horses to ride (albeit mostly hacking) I’ll let him have some more chill time.

Good save!

I had my XC lesson today. BH is a cautious chap and we think he needs longer at trot-and-pop before doing more. It isn't the fences per-se, it is the occasion, the other horses, the banners, flags, many fences. He takes time to process. Did some good fences and I will try to sort out either some video or stills later, but I have the dentist this aft!

Well sat LEC!

V early usual Friday morning flatwork lesson before work today. Biomechanics lesson tomorrow afternoon which I'm finding fascinating - will be lesson number 3. Who knew such small changes to my weight/position could make such a difference? Sunday will be a nice long hack.

Loving the cooler weather and yesterday's rain has returned my school to normal (plus Mr Nicnac harrowed it yesterday afternoon -I'm spoilt!)

I will be waving anyone going south to Brightling as road closure of the dual carriageway southbound from the M25 will send peeps past my house.....

Have a good one all!

Oh dear, very annoying when that happens. First dressage I took my ex racehorse too, last moment someone else from yard decided to join. Mine didn't want to leave the warm up as it meant leaving his friend - we backed up a bank, which was a little scary and in the test we (he) neighed quite a bit. Such a shame for you but hopefully can find somewhere nice and quiet to go or even offsite for a lesson.

Not competing this weekend but if not windy going to give the concours outfit a try out - might not hack out in it, may get some odd looks.

This horse!! Another attempt at a DC to get to Aintree National Amateur Champs. And another clear, this time at Eland. That’s 4/4. With one more needed from 3 more possible attempts. Arghh pressure is on now. When I needed 5 from 7 it seemed such a long shot. But I’m sooooo close now. Lottie is a total star.

I took the baby Clydesdale for his first prelim and decided to go the whole hog and register him BD to do it. He was a very good boy and, as is the way when you do dressage on a draft horse, drew the biggest crowd of the day. There were about 15 spectators for our test… I had some lovely comments about him and even had someone say that it looked like I was having loads of fun and she’d like to get a Clyde for dressage if it’s that much fun and she wishes more people enjoyed it like we obviously do.
He scored 62.3% under a notoriously strict judge - she’s correct in her marking so no complaints. Which was only 2% behind 2 of our yard mates who are on proper competition types with tons more experience than Ace. I’m actually pretty chuffed.
Just one slight blip, turns out my horse has tail coat aspirations… and threw in some beautiful two-time changes! Sadly, they don’t occur in prelim 18 😂

We had an amazing time at Plas Heaton fun ride today. After doing a 10 miler yesterday I thought Kiki might be tired but oh no he was well up for it. Managed two river crossings with no theatrics and got through some deep mud without losing any boots so a good outing. The coffee van was great too, offerings included tiffin and halloumi wrap 😋

I saw @Flame_ setting off on her ride just as we arrived, your Arab is gorgeous

Oh, thank you so much. I have absolutely no humility as far as my horse is concerned - I agree, he is super gorgeous :D and a total dude for giving me another fab day.

These rides are so good, glad you had a good day too!

I decided this weekend everyone needs a microcob in their lives 🙂

We did a quick hack around her favourite field on Friday. Just one attack of the zoomies. But Saturday I loaded her up on the box and got my OH to drive us down the road to a hack I haven't done yet. Doesn't look like anyone has done it for a while - all the gates were covered in bindweed and we were fighting thistles and trying to find the path. I was warned there might be a bit of water to cross. A bit?! Flipping river above my boots. Obviously I did not eye up the footbridge and decide that a small pony could fit over it.....

Such a superstar. Totally pooped by the time we got home. Round 3 today when she took my 7yo niece out on the lead rein. Obviously I'm not planning on converting a 7yo to a very expensive hobby 🤣

If I could have a 15h version I think I'd get one in every colour

My pony is home after a 2.5 week stay at hospital and nearly losing him to pneumonia. So I’ve spent the whole weekend just staring at him whilst drinking lots of celebratory Prosecco/margaritas/wine and feeling very, very lucky to still have him.

Kiss your horses noses, you never know what’s coming.

Took my boy out to a pole clinic, his first time out since going for a rescope at the vets in August last year! Went to the same place we went to a clinic in May last year, so sort of familiar. Was so pleased with him, still excited to be out but got some really nice moments of relaxation as well! Much better than last time he went out... Here's hoping we can start getting out regularly now and finally make some progress!
