Late report from BCA on Wednesday.

After our last attempt at dressage (52% at Purston Manor) we tried a bit of a change of tactic! Last couple of times I have been sitting quiet, praying that the test would finish before Lex actually exploded. Not successful.

This time I went in with a different attitude - no prisoners - take the ginger assasin on at her own game! We had a couple of good arguments (nearly left the arena while performing arial acrobatics) but apart from a couple of little 'incidents' the test went MUCH better and she came out on 39.5. Hooray!

Unfortunately our luck didn't hold into the SJ - didn't seem to be seeing eye to eye from the moment we went in! 3 down in the end but she jumped confidently enough so nothing to really worry about I don't think.

XC was quite short and straightforward. Only 'question' as far as we were concerned was un-avoidable step down into the water (positioned so you had to at least have a try at the straight route before you could take the alternative). She jumped like a star - lovely clear round and definitely seems to be gaining in confidence with every outing.

Photos here.

Self-indulgent post I know but wanted to share this one - she is turning into such a little star!

Didn't realise you had her in again from her hols, and fittened up ready to go.
The two photos are great, especially liked the second one, she is giving the brush plenty of height.

Well done to have such a good first run back,

Fiona

NB - did you ever try the SJ exercise (3 fences, 48 feet, 3 strides apart, then try to to A-B in 4 strides and B-C in 3 strides)?? Freshman and others thought it seemed a bit mean to fiddle with horsie in a 3 st dist, but you thought Lexi might be able to do it?

Thanks. It is actually her second event back - we did Purston manor a couple of weeks ago but I have been away with work since and not online.

That was the PN class we did - her third one in total (this is her first season BE - she did some intros in the spring). She has one more outing to go - Holdenby PN in 10 days.

I will have a go at the jumping exercise on Sunday - she is good at that sort of thing. Will try on some tiny fences first in case it is all too much!

I thought the brush looked a little big for an intro!

Let me know about the exercise - when we did it the first fence was about 2', and 2nd and third started at 90cm (before he put it up). If your SJ canter is good, exercise should prove that she is in front of the leg. Think Sophie's prob was her canter, rather than her jumping!

No, we have decided to quit while we are ahead. If she does Holdenby then that will be 8 events this year (4 intro and 4 PN). I think that is plenty for a 5 year-old.

We have a whole winter of dressage and SJ ahead of us so we can come back and win something next year!
