Attended a show yesterday and was two thirds of the way through the class when 2 late comers arrived (together) and were allowed to join in.

I don't think it's fair, fair enough 5 minutes of so, but 20 minutes past the start.

And they both got placed!!!

Fair or not? Am I just being a mean git lol :D

Yep totally unfair, i've had that happen myself, really annoying.

Last year at a BIG county show my friend was in a class with her young Welsh D gelding, a late comer arrived when the judge had made the final line up and he allowed them into the ring, watched them run their horse etc, then sent everyone off again and pulled it in 1st, and that's the truth ! there was outrage outside the ring !

I think that at local level shows run by PC, riding clubs and local organisations it's ok to let a competitor in before 1/2 way through the class. However at county level and higher anybody after 10mins of a class closing the gateway into the arena.

This has happened to my daughter and I posted a thread about this last summer. Someone replied that affiliated shows don't allow entrants after the initial go - round has started trotting, and that seems fair to me.

One of the reason's BS won't be getting membership from me.........its shocking the amount of times you have to 'hang around' waiting for the usual ones that turn up late - its far worse than unaffiliated / RC shows.

In regards to showing, again unless you are tied in another ring once the class starts that should be it!!

To sum it up- its basic manners and respect for others that 'some' people seem to lack!! ( sorry rant over )

Yup I've seen a latecomer allowed in very late and then walk away with the class - appalling really. If everyone else can make the effort to be there in time why can't they?

This happened at a national show I was attending a couple of years ago. Despite the rules stating that latecomers would not be allowed into the ring after the initial walk around, two latecomers were admitted after the individual trot outs, just before the final walk around. They were also placed highly.:rolleyes::mad:

Happens in dog showing all the time too! Really miffs me off.... Its more when variety classes clash with breed classes... I think you should have to prioritise where you want to be... You either SJ or show.... Same with dogs, you either enter the breed class or variety.... Its unfair on the exhibits that are in the ring, have turned up on time and then they have to wait around for people who are late - Sadly its the judges discretion. TBH if I were judging (and I judge beagles and horses) if I have gone over every exhibit and they are all waiting for me to place then I would refuse entry to an exhibit, if I am still going over exhibits I would probably allow them in....

Yep... my experience of one was in a youngstock class...

Steward had been warned of a late arival I think and all the entrants in the ring were kept walking (on really bad ground- but thats another issue) and got really bored!

Latecomer turned up after about 20 mins - a grey... COVERED in poo stains!! I was horrified! and to be honest they shouldve been asked to leave the ring IMO. What an insult. Luckily it wasn't placed but still...
