For the last two years, due to the poor summer, I have ended up buying hay that was made in mid to late september. Initially the horses eat it, but once again, this year I am left with 25 bales of hay that they have decided they really don't like. It is not dusty or mouldy, but it seems to lose it's "nose" and doesn't smell as sweet as normal hay.

Has anyone else found this a problem ?

I buy hay from the same family, it is normally lovely stuff, but this late hay is just not working out well for me - at all.

It won't be as sweet because the grass was old when it was made. Unfortunately for the last 2 years most people have been in the same boat.
