We are 3 days in to boxrest after the boy was diagnosed with an injury to his right him suspensory. He likes his stable, but is very fit and can't understand why he is being kept in...so we had to Sedalin for the first couple of days.

He's had PRP treatment (on the day he was diagnosed...which was his first real day of lameness...the previous day he had only been ever so slightly lame)

He is booked in for shock wave and Cartrofen.

I am looking into the ARC Equine unit and will discuss this with my vet.

I am looking into hydrotherapy for later into his rehab.

So, I don't, can't, do passive. I struggling with the concept of not being able to do anything to help him. I'm following the vets instructions to the letter, and he's also getting a session in magnet boots every day. But what else can I do?

Anyone got any tips on the best sort of surface for handwalking, would cold hosing/ice boots be beneficial?

Anything else? Anything at all? I know it's mostly time and patience, and there are many success stories, but I need to know I'm doing EVERYTHING I can to help him heal.

Speak to an animal physiotherapist, they will work along side you vet and can help with therapeutic ultrasound and pulsed electromagnetic field therapy. PM me for more details.

Photonic red light therapy will help. It's a bit $$ to buy the wrap but I have and use the torch on my OTTB who has an old Suspensory injury.
I use it before warm up and after riding. The red light helps increase blood flow (which is important as ligaments don't have an awesome blood flow to start with) and stimulate collagen production (ligaments are made from collagen, aiding production helps the ligament to heal). It takes me an extra 10 mins before and after riding to use the light on his leg. It's non invasive, it won't harm you or your horse in any way, shape or form, Is quick to use and able to be used anywhere on the body.

NASA has been doing some awesome research on the efficacy of photonic red light therapy on soft tissue injuries. The results are really exciting. Below is a link to some testimonials from people who have used to same torch I have, or who have used the wrap designed by the same person responsible for the torch. I have also added a link to some of the research done on red light therapy.

Hope it helps :)
