Minxy was taken to Liphook Equine Hospital, viewed by their specialists, and sent home - nothing done, no treatment recommended. It was not felt by them to be in his best interests. The specialists have spoken, his fate lies in his owners hands :(

I am sure that any donations that the owner has received will be passed onto Liphook or one of the charities etc etc

Just saw the update on facebook, poor boy. I hope and pray that his owners will see the kindest thing to do is sometimes the most difficult.

Wouldn't surprise me to find that they try to take him elsewhere :(

Surprised the specialists didn't say anything, but then again, if this is from the FB page, perhaps the specialists DID say to have him PTS, but the owner left out that part

I'd put money on Liphook advising PTS - they wouldn't send a horse away with NO treatment and NO advice! Obviously they can't force owner to take their advice!

I'm actually relieved that they didn't offer treatment - proves that vets are NOT in it for the money (and let's face it, this foal could have been a license to print the stuff!)

I think the Inland Revenue should maybe be told about this "fund raising" ... just to make sure no personal profits are made. I think an equine charity will be delighted with this donation.

I only hope she doesn't keep touting him around the South, trying to raise more money for an operation that is not (I hope) going to happen. I would like to believe that there isn't a vet out there who would go against very well qualified opinion. I don't, however, hold out much hope that JM will do the decent thing. :(

Good old Liphook. I was just singing 'their' praises earlier today about past treatment on my mare. I too suspect they advised pts and that little tidbit wasn't passed on to all her FB followers. That poor, poor pony...

The way Liphook have handled this situation has gone some way to restoring my faith in equine vets, kudos to them. Minxy's owner needs to man up and do the right thing now.

hey minxy little one i hope you find peace- does it matter who makes money - little one i just hope you find the peace you need - sweet dreams and well join me and baby at rainbow bridge - we would love that . sweet dreams

I obviously don't know all the ins & outs of this situation, but I have worked at a vets previously, and been around old & injured animals.

If a vet advises no treatment, that doesn't necessarily mean they turn an animal away with nothing. An old or infirm animal, the owner may be advised that future treatment, i.e. operations or other invasive therapy, is not suitable or in the animals best interests. But the vet may then offer pain relief or other supportive therapies.

Without one of us having been there, we can't know exactly what was said, but I'd imagine most reputable vets with an animals best interests at heart would probably say that invasive treatments are not in the animals best interests, and would offer pain relief, and advise that PTS is strongly considered.

Ditto this. I really think that the welfare agencies should be looking into this if veterinary advice is being ignored too.
