Firstly sorry if this is in wrong place

I have a g reg layland roadrunner 8.15 and tonight the oil light come on - the oil level is fine and when I press accelerator it goes off but as soon as it's idle it comes back on - is this the oil pressure switch? - had the wagon over a year and not had an issue with oil before and always checked before each journey

Any ideas where I can get a new switch from if it is this

It could be all sorts of things. The oilways might be blocked for instance, it could be the switch. Does it do it when the engine is cold? If it's only lighting up when it's warm, it could mean the engine needs a rebuild. Or it could be the switch.....

I'd get it checked out by a competent someone with the relevant kit, as a new engine is costly.

Google Leyland DAF spares, there are loads of parts suppliers out there. :)

Does the engine still sound normal ? Is there any sort of "clonking sound"? Forget about blocked oilways That would increase the oil pressure at the pressure switch. Change the oil (dont use any sort of synthetic oil in an old truck) and change the oil filter. It is unlikely to be the pressure switch ,they tend to fail completely rather than come on at a lower pressure. If the engine is making a sound rather like a spray paint can being shaken (you know ,the ones with a big ball bearing in them) suspect the big ends . What happens is that when the big end starts to get seriously worn ,the piston crown hits the cylinder head . DO NOT DRIVE THE TRUCK if the engine sounds odd. It is far easier and cheaper to restore a worn engine ,than it is to fix one that has destroyed itself. In itself , low oil pressure at tickover is not necessarily a problem .It is oil flow that counts rather than the pressure.
