I know there's been a lot of threads about this recently, so I just thought I'd mention this.

Shy did NOT want to be in the school this morning (not often he's like that now, thank God), so I had a quick brainstorm, picked up the lunge whip, and flicked it gently behind him (NOT touching) - voila !! New lively pony :D I rode carrying it welll away from him for 15 minutes, the odd flick here and there, and it worked a treat.

Might not be everyone's solution, but it may help someone.

OMG I would die if I did that to either of mine  but they aren't lazy in the school so rather different. Made me laugh to think of you doing it, I bet Shy was gutted :D

I'm with the other two posters... only when I want to again remember exactly what sand tastes like would I try that one! I used to do it with my old cob though, he was as bombproof as they come.... sometimes I would have a schooling whip in the other hand too - wouldn't be recommending that to anyone else though unless they own a saint!

I think Fergs would go into "trick training / odd discipline" shut down mode and just ignore the whip while trying to be obedient without putting too much into it!

TBH, I have more trouble with brakes at the moment anyway :o

:D Like it. A few weeks ago I tapped the school fence with my schooling whip to get rid of the pigeons that had taken root on it. I never even thought about it until pony pinged forwards and we had a lovely session after that :D

haha! I like it! I was riding in the school once and pony was being a bit lazy, a friend was lunging up the other end so I asked her to flick the lunge whip at pony as we went by, she did an almightly crack - not realising that my boy is quite sensitive. I nearly ended up in orbit! Schooling session went nicely after that though as it woke us both up! :p

:D I can imagine that after your sword photos!

That wouldn't work with mine! She doesn't even listen to it when I lunge, even with a bag tied on to it flapping about her face! Lol
