lazy tb

My horse is recovering from splint and hock spavin surgery.I have to do two weeks walking on soft ground in the school before I can build up to trot .He is a very lazy tb who doesnt get motivated until we have had a canter how can I keep him going forward and interested.Fifteen mins walking tonight was worse than a 30 min schooling lesson Im exhausted just trying to get him going forward.Any ideas.

you should think yourself lucky!!most horses are too fresh after surgery/boxrest or reduced work...........

My lad is like this all the time,lol!!!Spurs,i dont ride without them

far better than nagging as they just switch off,use them temporarily and see how you get on

,i am of the philosophy....why should i work harder than you ya bugger...i work to keep you umpteen hrs a week,dosnt hurt you to give me a little when i ask, for the minimal amount of time you are asked

I realise he is recovering from surgery and feeling a little sluggish but he still needs to respect the fact you want him to walk out reasonably well!!

Think your right I have borrowed a pair before .His schoolings not great as he has had so many injuires its been a bit stop and start hes just green.Once he gets going and we can move up a gear Im hoping it will improve again.

,mine tickles me,he is full tb too,awesome work with spurs on...i was taking them off for jumping

big mistake,he was watching and was a pig,lol,just died,put them back on and he is like "Oh ok mum",lol,he is far from daft,and i only need them for reminders,he knows i have them and he respects them!!I too got sick of nearly passing out from exhaustion everytime i got off,pmsl

I would far rather give a short sharp jab than be nagging all the time,they respect it far more

If you knew what I had gone though the last year you would not use the l word

.Luck is definitely something we havent had on our side.Once he can hack out again he will be more than fresh.He goes from a complete zombie to a timebomb in seconds fortunately I can read the signs but a little enthusiasm after the heartache and money hes cost me would be appreciated

They sound very similiar,mine loves jumping but has had 2 years off due to injuries.Just trying to keep positive for next few months.The exhaustion bit I can really relate to. lol

took mine x country training for 1st time tues

pmsl,well....it was interesting,he jumped some lickle 1's,after they had bitten him the 1st time,lol....however did some grid work today and for the first time he was actually pulling me into them,must have decide poles dont bite like hedges,lmao

and he is 12

Hope it all works out for you both,it is frustrating but am sure it will all come right and you will get to have fun together again,light at end of tunnel and all that

Mines still a baby just 7.Ive had him since he was 4 1/2 did a xc when he was 5 and we both loved it and hes been broken since .Like you say bad luck runs out even the vet comments on his run of incidents he must have really helped his pension fund .I now have his home and mobile number .Keep up with the xc feeling really envious

fingers crossed for you that you will soon be on board again,they all go through it,had my lad from being 8mnth old and the bugger cost me a fortune before i even sat on him

told ya it was a late start,lol,he is still a big baby at 12 oooops 13 this month

,but he taking to things like he was 4,great having supportive people behind me,taken long enough,lol!!

Maybe we should have a laugh and compare notes on injuries and expenses.At least you dont feel your the only one with a broken horse on this forum.I cant afford to wait any longer hes young but Im not getting any younger lol
