my 5 year old has started to get really lazy when i ride him just wondering if due to maybe getting ready for a growth spurt or if i need to give him something else in his feed currently on top spec light suger beet and chop and ad lib haylage he is a wb x cob

When you say lazy do you mean he is behind your leg?

How much work is he doing and what sort of work?

I wouldn't think feed is the issue but his understanding and level of schooling could be the cause.

he is schooling and hacking out mostly the problem is when out hacking never had the problem before he has always been forward going

Is his hacking done in company or on his own?

Is he starting to get spooky when hacking?

Ensure he understands that when you use your leg you mean him to go forward but don't get into the habit of nagging with your leg. Ride him on the contact and in as much balance as possible. Transitions are your friend!

he hacks both on his own and in company , no we had all the spooky things last year and he has grown out of that one i do lots of transitions and pole work in his schooling do have a problem with maintaining a good contact due to him being overbitted when broken,
[not by me
which we are working on and he is getting better with he had a 3 ring waterford gag in for some god for saken reason
