Well had my first go at Le Trec yesterday (indoor at Brooksby college - so non of the map reading section). Me and a friend went off after some minimal practice and had a go.My mare Connie has been a little full of herself recently, and gets very excited when we go out after doing her first pleasure ride a few weeks ago (she's 17 by the way but acts like a 4 year old). she was poncing around the warm up and i held little hope for managing any of the sections.
Was a very funny round, very pleased with the slow canter, then she did the most humongous jump over the hedge and the ditch in the path crossing (will post a pic once i've got it on my computer) - even the judges were laughing. not so good rein back, relatively good bending, humerous over the footbridge - nothing phases her and she was enjoying it so much she wanted to trot across where a lot had dithered in front of it. then on to the stand and wait - which we'd failed at every time we'd had a go at home - low and behold she did it! then the S bend, which she was fine with, then our major fail, mount from the wrong side - she just would not stand still so we got a big fat 0 for that she kept turning around so i'd get on the right side, which is wrong for this competition if that makes sense. Then on to the 'narrow corridor' which we trotted through and then the low branches which no one else in the class managed and we did (i was virtually hanging round her neck though, and we went through at extended trot! - for anyone who doesnt know you have to go through a corridor of really high jump wings with little poles set 8" above your horses withers). then on to the final jump which again she absolutlutely flew. and then fast walk- which she proceeded to jog round so we got 0 there too.
Anyway, i'm very proud of my girly, and would recommend to anyone to have a go, we normally do dressage, bit of show jumping some xc etc. but this was so relaxed and good fun! I apologise for how self indulgent this is!
