This is also something I would love to have done on my other horse. OH entered one once which was being run as a special yearly event (can't remember the name of the lady who it was in aid of) entered with a friend and they came second overall. He loved it, but you didn't have to have some of the extras you have to have in other Le Trec comps like the extra horse shoe incase your horse throws a shoe etc.,

I've been a marshal and hazard judge at a couple of them. Not sure what your question was though? Seemed more of a comment.

Sorry was a bit vague wasn't it. What I was asking was if anyone competed in any and at what level?

I have competed once at level 2 & judged regularly whilst my daughter competes. She is taking part in Young Riders European Trec Championships in Italy at the moment.

You only need the spare boot & farriers tools at level 3 or 4. Can do level 1/2 without these.

Trec is fabulous sport & you don't need expense horse to be successful. Great way to explore countryside. Its a shame there aren't more competitions but they take a lot of work to organise & require lots of judges.

I've never done it, but helped to organise a few for my riding club. I think it's a common misconception (especially from the more competitive rider) that anybody can do it with no practice. From what I've seen some of the obstacles (e.g. rein back and 's' bend) are quite taxing and need to be practiced at home before hand. Luckily they are very easy to set up at home, a few pieces of wood (even jump poles will do) are all you need. My advice would be to get a rule book which shows all the possible obstacles set up as many as you can and practice at home.

I have done a few winter ones and did 1 full level 2 competition earlier this year ( and by an amazing fluke i won!)
Its good fun and nice to do something different, i also found the people very friendly when i did the full trec earlier this year i was pretty clueless about everything and the judges and the competitors were all great, even to the point the starting person on POR ( the map reading bit ) gave me a crash course on OS maps and compass reading just as i was about to start!
