Le trec

I just posted a thread of my Spanish pony doing Trec. At home we do the obstacle bit of walking over mats and tarps, bending, in hand manoeuvres, jumping, but also him being my (potential) dressage pony we work on a lot of lateral work, transitions etc. Anything to get the horse supple and responsive. I am just learning, I'm sure you will get more experienced people reply, but I'm enjoying it. Sadly I need a partner for the orienteering side as he is brilliant in company but not great hacking alone yet.

It is really fun and just hacking and playing with poles in the school is really easy. Cantering a narrow Chanel of poles, bending poles, z bends etc. If u can get hold of a rule book this gives all the obstacles and distances etc. Cantering as slowly as possible and walking as fast as possible without breaking pace can be done anywhere. The comps are fun and friendly but and probably will offend someone but a bit of an excuse for shoddy turnout and riding. A group of us all got placed at our first go just cause our horses are well mannered and obedient. Give it a go as it certainly adds something to schooling, my horse mainly Sj and enjoyed the variety. We will all be doing it again soon as just had a laugh.

You can do it as a solo or a pair. For the hacking section more fun to do together at a lower level I think but u can do it in your own and indoor comps u can usually do both classes if u want.

No, but they do run pairs classes if you prefer it. For full Trec it is not just the obstacles but an orienteering phase (a hack out following a mapped route and aiming to go at set speeds, so you need some map reading on horseback skills).
