I got my daughter a lovely lead rein pony about 6 mths ago, my daughter is 8 and been riding our shetland for about 2 yrs,

so to start with this pony was a little angel, my daughter can go catch her mess with her in the stable and riding her was going fine, we were even starting to do bits of the lead, anyway just recently she has got really silly, she spooks at really random things and spins round fast, seems very full of herself, and is just getting a bit naughty when my daughter is riding her so i cant let her of the lead at the moment and i really dony want my daughter losing her confidence with her.

what can i do, i have time on a morning when kids are at school and i often lunge her then, what do you recommend to get her behaving again. thanks.

she had her saddle fitted 4 mths ago and her teeth done 2mths ago so not the problem.

She also is out at the moment with her muzzle on 9 am - 6pm.

Do you have a lightweight adult who could ride her?Sometimes small ponies benefit from an adult or teenager who won't let them get away with naughty behaviour and can school tehm once a week or so.

i've just had a very naughty pony which benifited alot when i lunged him untill he was tired before i got on but thats cheating really

We have a pony that can be a bit 'naughty' at times, but have found that lunging her does not do much, so I started to long rein her, seems to work a treat as it means I can long rein her out round the fields etc, even do a bit of pole work when I am feeling energetic!

I do also lead her off of my horse when my daughter is at school, as she is only 12hh and horse is 16.3hh she has to work hard to keep up.

Is your daughter having lessons and if so what does her instructor think? If she is not having lessons, then perhaps is the time to get someone in to give you some help!
