How long should our individual show be? and what should it include?

Should I buy smart leather lead?

What is the correct way to attach whatever I decide to lead with?

Does leader (me!) have to wear a hat?

Errrr....will prob think of loads of other stuff but that's it for now!!

x

PS - any other obvious pointers anyone would like to add would be fab! Chaaars

Hey there!!
Sounds like yopur in for some fun!! Whats sorta M&M do you have at present??
I've been showing with the Welsh Pony and Cob and NPS for about 12 yrs now, and have seen many of these classes in that time.
Your show should be, as always with showing classes, short and to the point. No one wants to watch 40 horses troting around and around and around!!! it gets boring. With the lead rein, you need to begine with the usual; take the pony out, stand him up for the judge, you may want to give him a very little morsle of grass just to grab his attension should he be 'sleeping'. Once the judge has a had a quick lookie, or told you to do so you should begine your show. walk the Pony straight away from the judge to the end of the ring(provided your ring isnt miles too long!). Pick up trot at the corner and trot along a 'long side' as per such of the ring. Then you might want to just begin a figure of eight. this just shows the judge your pony is sound on both reins, and your rider is capable of trotting on both. after that, walk back to the judge, halt, salute(the jockey!!) ect ect ect!!
A leather lead rien would be prefrable, and you wont need to wear a safty hat, but some form of hat that with any luck matches your outfit is just the job!!
Hope this helps!!

Umm - not really up on lead rein, apart from a leather lead would be best, and it is attached to the noseband, not the bit. When you lead the pony, don't lead as normal, hold the rein just on one hand (your left hand) and the other arm just sort of hangs around doing nothing!
You should wear a hat.
Individual show depends on what they want - can include walk away, and trot back for the judge to see the pony's action. Can also include a trot figure of 8. Salute at the end of the show. If they say do your own thing, just do the trot figure of 8.

Other people will know FAR more about this than me!

Ah thanks for all that!!!

I'm quite nervous about it - silly I know....but i've only done a couple of showing classes in my life and none on lead rein!!
