Hi was hoping to steer my 4 year old away from the above class but appears not

So now need to get shopping for what we need etc. She has a navy show jacket with pink collar and silver piping. What colour would be best and what other stuff do we need- I.e. Pretty brow band? What do I wear  ? She's got brown tack if that makes any difference? Tie colour? And her pony is a sec a so he's ok to have long mane unplaited tail? Please say yes ;)

Any advice on what we need etc greatly received as I am a showing virgin! Never had the patience :D

Is your pony registered Welsh Sec A. If so, your best bet is to aim for the M & M Leading Rein classes, in which you don't plait and the whole affair is rather less "bling" than the plaited Leading Rein classes. In M & M classes you mustn't plait and you just trim a little for tidiness. Brown tack is perfect - the girth should be plain and everything spotless.

You would probably find it incredibly useful to go and watch a few classes at one of the early shows for hints about turnout and what you do in the ring.

As above if registered the pony should be shown as a M&M no plaiting etc but also no bling, the child and handler should wear tweed, not navy.
Tweed jacket, navy show hat, cream or canary jods, shirt and tie, matching ribbon in hair, brown jod boots and gloves.

Thanks for your replies, he's not registered so I'm assuming that only leaves the style and appearance option? Would he have to be plaited for this class? It's only local riding club but when I nipped in to one at the end of last year everyone looked so serious  don't want to look a complete idiot- don't mind looking a slight idiot though

If its just RC level you should be fine going as a M&M, if you wear navy, velvet browband etc you really should plait mane and pull tail if you want to look the part, sorry:D

Unless the class specifies registered, you can still do m&m at local level :)

There are three types of lead rein - show pony, show hunter pony and m&m

m&m and show hunter pony types wear the same outfit. Your daughter should have a tweed jacket, pastal coloured shirt, tie and hair ribbons which match, and yellow jods. Short brown jodphur boots and matching jodphur clip elastic. Brown gloves and a navy, green or brown hat finish the picture. You ideally would have a jacket in matching tweed, a long skirt, a scarf if necessary and an understated matching hat. Gloves too! All should tone in and match colour wise. For m&ms the pony is left natural, and hunter types are plaited. For both classes, plain tack with no bling or diamonte in sight!

For SP types, it is pretty much the same with navy jackets replacing the tweed, and your pony is plaited, and gets to wear a ribbon browband that matches with the tie/ribbons on you and your daughter. You get to be a bit more flamboyant as well - red jackets on leaders are quite common!

If you're just going to do local level, I'd work with what you already have and build on it slowly if you decide to do things a bit more seriously. At local level no one is going to be too fussy about it! Charity shops are also great places for putting together an outfit for yourself. You just need to have a good browse about :)
