Lead rein to First Ridden??

Hi, any others mummies who want to give me some advice or kick up the butt to get her in the first ridden classes.
My daughter is 6 shes got an absolute angel of a pony, in my sig! At home shes complety off the lead walk trot canter jumping hacking round the feild, riding with others teenagers and adults in the school. She wouldnt dream of asking me to run with her or even lunge now!!
At jumping shows shes just started doing clear rounds on her own, and think shes gonna have to do the main classes on her own as shes won the lead rein classes at all the venues in my area so dont think theyll let me keep leading her anymore. Theses class heights range from between 1ft and 1ft9.
Now its just the showing as it a whole new game first ridden although i know she capable of doing it but its the individual show in front of a line up!! Hes ever so good although he might be tempted to try and edge back shell be able to deal with it, but also remebering a show, at jumping i stand in the middle and show the colours of the jump!
Do you think i should just have faith in her and the angel in disuise of a pony! hehe. Has anyone any tips to get her going??:)
 
I think this is the worst transition ever. I was so worried when my daughter did it although she was older than yours at 8. The thing my daughter found hardest with her individual show was using the space in the arena. Practice at home using different areas of your school.

The other aspect of "letting go" is much harder to deal with! I think sometimes you just have to take a leap of faith. It seems she's pretty competent at home and the fact that you are asking the question certainly suggests to me that you think she's ready and you are probably the best judge.

Have you an instructor or PC DC that you can ask for advice?

Thankyou. I know really hard, jumping was easier beacause i could still go in there and there wasnt the aspect of others to worry about.
I teach her as i work with horses and teach myself but its harder when its your own, you worry more. Looking into joining PC in Jan.
I actually had a judge at a recent show tell me she shouldnt be in lead rein class as she too competent and marked her down because of that, it actually riled me as its the suitabilty of the pony being a lead rein, and she should have praised her riding!!
But to be honest shes bored in lead rein class and its not a challenge and all shes asks to do is canter and me let her off!!
We do practice in the jumping paddock for the show but as you said its using the arena.
I think the trick will be to put her in a real low key local show, the one ive got lined up for monday say cantering optional so dont think theres going to massive expectations will be more to confindence give.:):)
 
Oh well done your daughter, she sounds great! (and pony too). My daughter had a fab pony last year and wanted to canter and jump off the lead. I was terrified but HAD to trust the pony. Sadly we only managed to practice at home, heart in mouth and all the rest. The pony was sold (to us on loan but we couldn't afford to buy) and was taken away before we could even go off lead at a show.

Aim for a low key show. Trust the pony and don't forget to breathe. Have faith in your daughter as she sounds like a star rider. She wants to do it, so let her. Good luck.
 
to use the space have "lessons" where she has to reach all the markers- be it fence posts/cones, just corners or proper letters in an arena. has she learnt the lead-rein show? it doesnt have to be much different for first ridden :)
 
Thankyou, i think she is ready just got to let go!!! He is the loveliest pony ever and know he would do anything to hurt her in any way!!
Yer going to start a the low key shows and only in actual first ridden classes, hes a mountain and moorland and hes dun so been experimenting in odd coloured classes but dont think shed cope in a class like that off the lead, might be a bit of trail and error and lots of feeling sick!!! :)
 
Thankyou, ive had some lovely comments in odd coloured classes she got into a championship on her first go and even beat a big 15hh stallion hence why she wont be going off the lead rein in those classes i trust him but not the others around.
Hes the pony in my sig, i swear hes my daughters guardian angel sent down to look after her in the form of a pony!! :D:D
 
She sounds like a good little rider. When my daughter did first ridden they just used to walk and trot as a group but then offered more in the individual show.Your daughter sounds more than ready to do that. Good luck and enjoy!
 
maybe if your worried about the individual show get her to do a best turned out class first and see how she gets on as she wont have to do an individual show
 
Shes doen best turned out no problems, shes capable of it its just that jump fron off the lead i needed tips for, most people you see her ride tell me to get her to do it, i just need a kick up the back side!!hehe:)
