He just has to keep his nose and lips on the move.

change from a lead rope to a chain shank (use it in racing) which is a chain covered in a tough plastic (like hosepipe...bit tougher) with quick release things either end....

lol, i guess you could put cribbox on the rope or use one of the plastic covered ropes? a cribber at an old yard used to be tied up with a chain with a quick release clip.

Sounds good, where do you think i would get one, I've looked at Derby House but they've only got the normal leadrope with a chain?

Other than using a lead rope with the chain at one end don't know what to suggest. Mine's the same, he always has to be fiddling with something with his mouth, can untie himself in seconds (never wanders off, just undoes his rope) will play with rugs if left within reach and will pick up grooming kit box, brooms, forks, wheelbarrows, anything he can reach. I suppose I should make more effort to stop it but it can be quite amusing and I can think of worse things he could be doing

Mine likes to undo his rope rather than doing it just to play with. I stopped using regaular twisted rope ones because they shred so easily, I use the flat ones and had some spray my mum was using to stop the puppy stealing and chewing her glasses! and put that on the rope. It tastes vile and stopped him for quite a while. I haven't got round to putting any on a new flat rope I have for him and do find I yell at him a lot instead.... must get more of that spray, well reminded!

we have an empty plastic 2 litre bottle half filled with gravel which is tied to the tie up ring - my sisters horse just likes the noise it makes when he plays with it, so it seems to have stopped him playing with the lead rope, and from stamping and trying to dig up the concrete!

he'll throw things at people on the yard if he's not the centre of attention, and he puts rugs in the water barrel if he's left alone with them on the floor. in fact he's a right pain in the proverbial!

my lad however just unties himself and stays put. quite happy to stand where he's put, but doesn't want to be tied up. oh the injustice of it!

I'm sure I have seen plastic covered chains in a catalogue(Derby House/Robinsons etc) I think they were in the 'stable equipment' section. Otherwise, that stuff people use to stop them biting their nails tastes really nasty and might work. Or something indestructable to play with instead ?!

i used an areborn soft touch leadrope with chain on my old girl

(when she was stressed or in a bad mood, she would take it out on her leadrope or the wall)
