Our shire x is an absolute darling most of the time but his leading is not good. He will be walking next to you one minute and the next he's gone, he uses his weight to get away and once he's going it's near impossible to hang on.

He'll go even in a control head collar or bridle and I've also tried taking him back to basics. We are his fifth home and I know that he's been like this in his last two homes.

Any ideas? He doesn't do it all the time but he's very unpredictable. To get him in generally we put up a walkway between his bit of field and the gate so he doesn't have access to the whole field if he does go!

I also have a big heavy and we use the monty roberts dually halter and a long line (you can use a lunge line) that was you can keep hold of him at a safe distance. The dually will teach him the more he pulls the more incomfy it gets without putting pressure on pressure points and hurting him etc
