Hi,

Contemplating leading my daughter on the pony she's started sharing from my horse tmro.....

The said pony HAS been led from another horse but I've had my boy most of his life and I'm pretty sure he hasn't done it.

I would do it around the track that circles the fields before attemping a hack but has anyone any tips/pointers/do's or don'ts?

(Oh and my boy is 15.3 and pony is around 11.2

- he seems to hate her aswell but think this may be a jealousy thing as she has only just come "onto the scene" and is getting alot of attention in front of him!!)

Thanks!

I'm starting this after the Easter holidays, have had my horses back shoes taken off in case and will lead without small jockey first. Make sure your child can steer and stop independently (I used to lead my older boy on his v. good pony from my older mare, this time its two young 'uns). If your daughter can't steer the pony will keep bashing into your horse, which is uncomfortable for you and her and can make the horses get a strop on!
I am really looking forward to riding with my son, hes 6, how old is tyour daughter? (My horse is 16 hands and pony 11.1)

My daughter's 7. Thanks for the advice! My father's coming down to the yard tmro so I'l have some help on the ground "just in case!". Thankfully, the pony and my horse go out together so I'm hoping they'll be a bit more tolerant of each other - but we'll see!!!??

I'm so looking forward to be able to hack out together though - I think it's the this lovely weather we've had in the past couple of weeks that has put me in the mood for going on long scenic hacks (or maybe it's just nice to escape London)....either way, I can' wait to spend some quality time with my daughter.

I'm also hoping it will build up her confidence a lot more.

Eldest, who doesn't ride anymore - thats boys for you - is 12 and Billy is 6.
I twisted my ankle last night and am very lame - aarrgh! Its all swollen, but I have to be able to drive...(let alone walk, lol!).
