Leading whilst tacked up

Ok possibly daft question (I am famous for them!

), if you are leading a horse with a bridle on is it ok / safe to clip the lead rope to the bit ring and lead like that (I would never tie a horse up like that though). I am assuming it would be ok as I think some people lunge with the line clipped straight to the bit, but was wondering if it might cause problems if the horse was a bit lively, it that it might hurt their mouth, pull the bit through etc.

The best thing to do is thread the lead rope through the nearest bit ring to the side you are leading on and clip it onto to inside of the other bit ring(if you see what I mean) this way you can't pull the bit out of the horses mouth and it gives more control too

we lead our big babies in bridles with snaffles every day. We thread the rope through the ring and clip it to the one on the other side. Obv like you said don't tie up like it but its works great for the baby percherons who are like tanks and tend to "fall" downhill.
 
Oh baby Percherons! I am possibly looking for a second horse and was considering these as they look like my big grey and have a similar shape.

Do they make good riding horses?

I don't need to lead George in a bridle as he is as quiet as a lamb, just with regards my hacking confidence issues I thought I would take a lead rope on my saddle and then if there was a problem I could hop off and lead him properly as I am always more confident on the ground.

The baby percherons sound lovely, any pics?
 
Lol, not decent enough to show on here unfortuanlty. Thier names are Jacob Marley and Tiny Tim and are 3 and 4. If any of you saw the 4 year old thread thats about jakey. Although he's only been broken a couple of weeks he's v comfey and have the most amazing temperament (if you go look at the post you'll see all the stuff he went past!) The nice thing is too that although their heavy they're not too tall (16hh and 16.1 at withers atm but bums inch bigger so theres a bit of growing) and they're pretty agile. Both boys are lovely driving horses and i'm guessing tim will be as nice as his brother to ride.
 
G_G I would just take the reins over his head and lead like that, saves the hassle of carrying the leadrope? If you wanted to be "correct" you can thread the opposite side reins through the ring on the near side if you get me. Would just be one less thing to worry about!

Oh I found a pick. Although you have to excuse the tack, we're not set up for riding and its all a bit cobbled together, plus this is his first ever trip out of the yard so everything was a bit more safty minded. Rich prefers to ride the babies with no stirups for the first ride or two as doesn't want to get caught up. he was lead most of the way too. we're working on steering lol
