Hi my daughter is taking part in her last leadrein class on sunday :

She's had a good fun season but mainly I feel me (as the runner!) slows her down ;)

I'm a fast runner but struggle to stop the pony near enough things?

Anyone got and helpful tips? I'm sure there must be some tricks of the trade? :D

Well when i was little, my dad (being super competitive) used to sprint and i'd cling on for dear life. I didnt really 'ride' my pony, i was dragged along at such speed my eyes watered lol. I used to do well as i was also good at running and doing the variety of tasks but would of happily toddled along at my own pace if dad hadnt towed me and pony along at 100mph!!

Now, i am the leader for my son. After my successful, but super fast experience, i tell callum that if he wants to go faster then he has to kick on, if he wants to slow down, then he slows up. I let him ride his pony, and the result depends on him. My dad (callums grandad) now just stands on the side shouting to run faster!!

Not massively helpful to you but thought i'd share my thoughts! x

Is there particuler items you cant get the pony near enough to? I guess you can only practise, practise and pratise.

If its her last season on lr then she should be up to doing the majority of the riding herself, with you alongside for safety. So leave it to her & you just concentrate on legging it & stopping when the pony does.
