my 7 yr old siberian husky has got leaky nipples. she is not nuetered, i do not know a huge amount of her past as we rescued her just over a year ago. She has on a couple of ocassions escaped out the house (dont you love them!) but was not gone for long. she seems well within herself but a strange thing ive noticed is that she is prefering to sleep upstarirs away from everyone, when normally its the opposite.I have no idea when she is due a season as it seems to be all over the place. Im sure she had one a few months ago. Her nipples are leaking a browny substance except for one which looks like its leaking colostrum.she isnt eating or drinking more than usual. Any advice?

i dont think that she has been out long enough to get caught and her belly hasnt grown. a tiny bit of clear discharge from her vulva which is why i thaught pregnancy, but she is still the same weight. I had a look at her just now, couple of her nipples are fine now, one is bleeding slightly if you squeeze it and the other is producing colustrum looking stuff out of one side and fluidy brown the other-yet she is trotting round the house happily??!! think i will give the vet a call tomorrow!!

It only takes seconds for the deed to be done

If she has not been caught...she could be having a phantom pregnancy.....have u thought of having her neutered.
She is also at risk of a Pyometra(infection of the womb) given her age and the fact she is not neutered, and had a recent season.....I would definatley have her checked out.

Is she drinking more than usual?

not noticed drinking more than usual-she always drinks alot-i have had her for just over a year and dont know much about her past, im guessing maybe she was used for breeding as she is kc registered and not neutered. how could i find out??

If u said....she already had a season...then she is definatley not neutered....u definatley need to get her checked out.

(ps this forum id doin me head in LOL.....its taking half hour to bloody reply

she's either pregnant or having a phantom pregnancy - a vet will be able to tell you which one. 3 months after her season finished you can get her neutered which would strongly advise as then no more messy seasons, no worries about pregnancy, no phantoms, no pyometra, reduced frequency of mammary tumours - i could go on, but i'm sure you get the drift!

I took my bitch yesterday to the vets as she is having a phantom. £66.00 pounds later and a five day course, could help, or may not!! He told me, if I had caught it sooner we could have turned the hormes off, as she is in milk, the medicine may not work and things will go away naturally.

He said that most people just leave it, but I did not want her to become uncomfortable, so fingers crossed it will work.

Not sure about brown stuff though, I think a trip to the vets is the only way to sort it out. Good luck

took her to the vets,he said possibly a mammary infection, hasd given me 7 days of antibiotics to see if she improves, didnt seem to worried about her pregnancy symptoms? felt her tummy, no enlargent-but is concerend she might start showing symptoms of an infected womb in which case urgent surgery-it all depends on the next 7 days. god knows how im going to afford the surgery if she needs it :-( anyone know what to look for, and when i should get her straight back to the vet??
