My horse is currently ridden in a dutch gag on the third ring- harsh you might think but she has been known to bolt! She goes really well in this but when we trot or canter she appears to lean on the bit and powers forward. I have been recommended a waterford gag because as i said she goes well in the gag and apparently the waterford will stop her leaning. Please dont say more schooling is required because she is an ex hunter who absolutely hates schoolin but is the boldest hack out there! do any of you ride in this bit or recommend one that can stop her leaning as the bitting world is a bit of a minefield
Thanks guys

Waterford gag worked wonders for ours although only needs it for jumping. Worth a try. Peoples opinions vary on waterfords but it works for us xx

Phil is in a gag for this too. He's on the 2nd ring but I need it to lift his head as he ducks behind the bit occasionally. Have you tried riding with two reins, one on the first and one on the third, then she won't get so used to the constant pressure?

Another one for the waterford, it worked relly well on my boy, he had it on for a short while then back to his snaffle, along with excercises it was great.

And another for waterford, rode my boy in it for about 4months on the bottom ring doing every thing and we eventually managed to bring it up and we are now in a waterford hanging snaffle for schooling and the gag on bottom ring for jumping and hacking. Beware tho alot of people will make comments about having them on this esp on the bottom ring but my instructors have told me many times that if i feel comfortable and my horse is happy and goes nice in it then thats all that matters, so many people seem to think that every horse will go nice on a simple snaffle and if they cant then its the riders fault but that is really not the case as ALL horses are different as are riders and people really need to realise that! But i would reccomend trying the bit to see how you get on then if your both comfortable in it then stick with it, and dont let anyone put you off using it as its only about you, your horse and how comfortable you feel riding in it

Agree with above that you will get some that say they are cruel! But our instructor said the same & it works - he hates snaffles!!!

many thanks guys - i have heard mixed opinions on this bit and will await the comments - however as you have said what works for one doesnt for another ! s it correct that u have to buy the next size upfor them to fit properly - my girls a 6 so will she need a 7?
By the way chocs for you ladies:):)
