so i want to go to the British racing school i have only had a couple of riding lessons

can they really teach you to ride a racehorse and be good enough to work in a racing yard in 12 weeks ?

i am going to apply this week but don't want to waste my time if i wont be good enough to work in a yard

I think you need to find out how much riding experience you need, as I was talking to someone whose daughter had been there and given up.

A friend of mine has just completed there training course there and now is placed in a yard. She is only 16 but was very committed to it which you have to be, I think in total about 8or 9 dropped out fairly quickly as it's very tough. She loved it but I certainly don't think it's for everyone, very long days little time off etc.

There is no doubt that the dropout rate for people with no experience is greater than others, but that is to be expected. It is a tough job, but comparatively well paid and has several career options.
I would never put anyone off doing what they want to do, however if I were OP, I would be doing voluntary work, maybe start at the R.S. or find someone who has the time to explain the basics, it is not only the riding, there is a lot to learn, and the racing school can only do so much, I notice for example that some racing school graduates don't seem to know how to lead racehorses properly! Presumably they were taught how to, but decided it was not important!

Some people are naturally good riders, most have to work at it, but either way I would recommend that OP gets herself fit, running 3-4 miles every day and two workouts at the gym per week.
