Took Donovan to a show yesterday, and had a couple of people that we have met through the showing world come with us to give us some tips!
We got there, undid the trailer and opened it all up, then they suggested leaving him on it until just before the class. usually we would take him off and tie him up outside. we have had some problems loading at a show, and have decided not to let him eat the grass whilst we are out, as he was enjoying it too much and wanted to stay! Just introducing to him that when we are at a show, its work time, and rest time at home in his field.
So, one of the friends with us makes her ponies look absolutely stunning, and she set to work on Donovan. he was already bathed and trimmed, and I thought looking pretty good! But she buffed and polished, trimmed and chalked and he looked lovely!
She showed him in the first class which he won, and then her OH showed him in the 2nd and they won that as well! They have taught us ideas on getting him to stand square, and not fidget, which were 2 other things we were struggling with.
Then my OH took him in the 3rd class and they won that too!!!!
Then almost straight on the box and home.
And we had one very tired, almost shell shocked pony when we put him out in the field!!!!
