We are thinking of leasing our 12.2 jumping pony but not sure how to go about it. Has anyone got any experience with leasing ponies or have leased a pony preiously? How much do you usually charge on a monthly/yearly rate? TIA for any help

Its fairly common to lease competition ponies. A lease is really only a loan with money attached! When we have leased in the past it is usually an up front fee for the period then the lessee is responsible for all ongoing costs. Often also for transport from and back to the Lessor. We never leased any of the ones we owned - they either stayed with us and were offered on share only (Daughter's first) or were sold. What you can charge depends on the level of the pony. JAs can attract quite a premium. If you don't have an affilliated record you might struggle. It depends on the area.

Probably the first person to talk to is your BS Junior Academy Coach. They will know you and the pony and have a fair idea of what rates are likely to be reasonable both for the pony and for the area. Always have an absolutely clear watertight contract!

Clients of mine leased a pony for a few years, they paid around 10% of its value per year, they insured it and had to agree to using the owners vet, obviously only viable if in the same area, there was a very detailed contract drawn up to cover pretty much every eventuality, they bought all the tack and equipment from the owners with them getting that cost back if and when the pony was returned, theirs went onto another child again on lease once he was outgrown.
