My new posh Heritage comfort bridle arrived this morning, smelling lovely! I've never really had new tack before so I thought I had better ask - should I do anything to the bridle to protect it before I use it? I've Googled and discovered that some people say to put a light coat of neatsfoot on, and some say that is the worst thing you can do. Some say to put some glycerine soap on, some don't. I have some nice Renapur leather conditioner that I could use (this is what I usually use for before shows etc., and just glycerine stuff for general cleaning).
So now I'm really confused and need some help! What should I do? Or do nothing??!
Thanks!

I usually put some neatsfoot oil on new tack....that's what I was always taught to do as a kid, and it's what i've done ever since. It's probably wrong these days though

I use flexelan (sp?)leather dressing on my tack as oil if it's a bit dry. I used to use neatsfoot but tack shop owner said this stuff was better - and I think it is TBH. I've never had any problems with neatsfoot either mind...

When I got my new bridle I oiled it the first time before I used it with some gold label oil.

Now I clean it reguarly with carr&day&martin step 1 and 2 sprays which are easy to use and apply.

Hmm well all my gold label stuff leaked and made a mess in my tack box so I'll probably put some neatsfoot and some glycerine soap on once I've checked that it fits and I don't need to send it back!
