HI
I've just gone and bought some tack and need to treat it as it is very stiff (ok hands up I did buy cheaply).
Whats the best way to try and soften it up ? Should I smother it with saddles soap and then neatsfoot it? or has anyone got any magic ideas - I want to make it as supple as possible.
Many thanks foryour advice.

If it was cheap then I would be tempted to smother it in oil and wrap it in newspaper, and then a few days later treat it with a good quality conditioner such as oakwood.

I'd oil it then use NAF weekly. I use the leather cleanse and then leather conditioner which is really good and improved my sales bargain bridle!!

I usually (ok owning up to some crispy tack) strip it all back with saddle soap, use the scratchy part of a washing up sponge to open the pores to the leather and use a good grease/cream conditioner. Have been warned away from oil as this just softens the leather and will eventually rot it till it snaps (no warning) oil also rots your stiching from the inside out so you can't see where or when it's going to go. Good luck mine usually comes back nice clean smooth and supple.
