Trying to get lots of fibre in my horse for weight gain he can only eat soaked feed due to his teeth (he manages hay fine) he just cannot manage nuts etc

Does anyone leave a big bucket of fibre feed in horses stable over night with hay too so they can trickle feed it however I’m worried he’d have his normal feed then just wolf this down and colic lol ?‍♀️

I did for my 32yo over winter. He was very sensible with it.

Just soaked fast fibre in a big trug. I also left a trug of chaff as well as his normal feed and a bit of hay. He couldn’t really eat hay due to wobbly teeth, but he didn’t ever eat absolutely everything so I know he wasn’t gorging.

We have given our oldies soaked grassnuts with added dried grass chaff to stop bolting. They have always treated it more like a 'feed' than a hay replacer, I must admit, although one of ours used to go back to it several times overnight.

My old mare (25) is on a hay replacement diet although she can still eat a little bit of hay. She won't eat more than a section overnight. So to help bulk her out I give her a big water bucket size bucket with alpha beet and grass nuts soaked which she grazes on over night. She has about 1 scoop of alpha beet and 2 scoops of grass nuts soaked in two 1/2 buckets of water and it fills her feed bucket. Seems to work for her and vet just been out and said what good condition she was in :) she is out at grass all day.
