Leaving sweet itch rug on in the rain?

I bought a Rambo sweet itch hoody which isn't waterproof so I bought the liner separately online but it hasn't arrived yet and I'm going on holiday today. So, I want my boy turned out in his rug but what if it lashes it down? Do they dry relatively quickly? I can't really ask livery to keep taking it off and putting it back on but weather has been a little erratic here the last week, with a lot of rain - what to do?

I looked after a mare last year who had hers on, minus liner, in all weather with no problems. It does dry quite quickly and I never felt the need for a liner. When it turned cold in autumn I did put a lightweight rain sheet over the top if needed.

yes absolutly leave it on midges are at the worst after the rain stops and its all horrible and humid, as last poster says dries out really quick not a problem :-)
