Hey all,

I am going on holiday for 3 weeks, will be near enough the other side of the world (hence my stress), and leaving Tink with my OH. She LOVES him and she has been to his house a fair few times so I'm hoping all will go smoothly. He has about 2 acres of fenced in land so she can run about happily and I'm hoping she will be on good behaviour...

I'm trying to write a list of things he should know/trying to sort how to keep her happy, any advice?

Will be sending her with her normal food, and her bed etc. He has a dog who she gets on with to a degree...as long as his dog stays away from her bed/doesnt get too much attention from me.

I'm hoping that as I'm not there any jealousy will be lessened, any other advice on diffusing snarly moments or helping them get along better?

If you were looking after someones dog for that long what would you want to know? My mind has gone blank.

I'm probably over reacting and she'll have a whale of a time and not want to come home, but I want to reduce the numvber of long distance phonecalls!

Thanks :)

Phone numbers for the vet she's with and insurance company details if she's insured, microchip details if she's chipped etc. For a stay of three weeks, I'd probably get a tag with his number on it, even if it's just one of the plastic ones with a bit of card you write on.

could you have a couple of practice sessions with the other dog? or maybe an occasional sleep over for your dog to get used to the other house etc

Archiepoo- she has stayed over a couple of times, hopefully going to fit in a few more visits before I go. Made sure to keep everything of "hers" out of sight and *touches wood* there were no tantrums...

Might sound melodramatic but make sure you tell your vet that he will be looking after her and that he is authorised to agree any treatment needed in your absence.

Can't add any other advise as I am afraid that I am too soft to leave my dog for more than one day so never go on holiday without her. Have a fabulous time.

well its like leaving ur baby so dont forget to get ur OH set up with skype so you can see your doggy (and OH of course) as often as possible. dont forget to have a good time!

Conkers- good idea. Have left vets/insurance details but should probably call up the vet and let them know some random bloke may be bringing her in.

She's a bit like me in the sense that she will happily amuse herself all day and barely acknowldge you when you get in, goes for walks with anyone and is everyones best friend as soon as she has met them...

Just slightly paranoid as she's getting older now and nearly everytime we go to ireland she has some sort of mishap requiring stitches/antibiotics...!

Maybe a vet visit just before you go, sort of a doggy MOT? Plus all flea/worm,nails trimmed sort of treatments?
Possibly even send her with a crate (if she's been used to it before) so its her space?-madly over the top I know, but its always about 3-4 weeks in when the house dog gets cheesed off with the 'guest' who hasn't left yet!
