Leaving youngster on own while riding other horse advice

I have a rising 2 yr old filly who lives out with my 9yr old gelding. I've owned her since she was a 5mth old foal. Up until march this year we were on a livery yard with other horses, but only shared her field with my gelding and she was always chilled and settled when I took the gelding out of the field to ride him. I moved them to their current yard where there are between 2 -4 other horses in the field adjoining her, but she goes bananas when I take the gelding out of the field to ride. She's managed to come through the hedging twice and even tried to scramble under the post and rail fencing to follow. I am moving them both soon to land I'm renting where they will be the only two there. Any ideas on how to get her used to being left, I don't think getting another horse as a companion is a solution as she already has others as company now but still freaks out every time I take him out. Thanks all. I won't have stabling at the new place so stabling isn't an option.

It sounds like she is unsettled at the new yard. She might not know where she stands with the neighbouring horses so feels insecure when her 'uncle' leaves her.
You could try leaving her with food and only of a minute,then stretch to 2 minutes etc. Or ride and lead!
My filly loves being shut in the stable but I am currently getting my OH to turn her back out once I am out of ear shot. He also stays close by to distract her if she notices the gelding is not there. Hopefully she will accept being home alone in the field.......When I back her though I reckon the gelding is going to be much more difficult to settle on his own

This is a good idea, and good advice. Too late now for your situation, but we get all of our stock used to being separated from an early age, and they all cope. Being "herd-bound" is not an option as ours will all have to work singly at some stage. We also change pasture mates regularly, and turn out separately too.

Keep repeatedly seperating them and if you can graze them in individual fields even better. I've noticed my youngsters went through through phases of being clingy but seem to get over it after being grazed seperately.

just to make you jealous, I take both my ridden horses out and leave my 2 year old by himself and he doesn't care at all. If he did, I'd give him a bit of haylage and he's soon forget. Sadly most horses aren't so obliging

Yes... I always left her in the field at my previous yard when I took him away and she was never bothered to be honest, which is why this new behaviour was a bit of a shock. At our old yard her neighbours changed quite regularly as other liveries left and new ones arrived. As I won't have stabling I can't shut her in whilst I ride, but I will try the feed option, although she isn't too fussed with feeds and often kicks it over. Keep your suggestions coming. Thanks
