I was always taught long leg, feet level but allowed to wrap down and around the horse, toes inwards.

Id this correct as my friend was told to bring her knee up/forward and point her toes down to stretch her leg (conflicting the knee bringing up??). THis was by someone quite high up in Affiliated Dressage!

So who is correct??

Could your friend have being given a specific exercise to correct/streach the muscles in her leg so that when
she took her stirrups back her leg would be in the correct position?

My instructor told me to do something with my hands that was slated on this board (I think because I completely described it in a terrible way and gave everyone totally the wrong impression), but she did it in an exagerated way to get the message through my thick skull. And I ended up with a hand position that is better than anything I have achieved in 30 years - having had lessons with many top trainers (including a British team member). So I am very happy indeed with her somewhat unorthoox advice. Maybe its the same for your friend?

naturally it should hang low around the horse but be on the girth (heel, hip shoulder line) but there are exercises where you bring your leg up as you mentioned to improve core strength and encourage a better seat?
