Hi

Need some help/advice, What are the best leg wrap/boots to keep legs clean, i have a Yearling Traditional Colt that lives out 24/7, he has a championship coming up end of September which is a 3hour drive, he is heavily feathered for his age (all 4 Legs are White) but i cant put bandages on as he wont stand still long enough.

He's the little one on the right of picture

What do you travel him in? If you use travel boots then they should keep him quite clean. However as he is very young maybe he doesn't like the feel of boots ? If he is ok with them then I'd go with that and just allow enough time so that you can wash the ends of his feather when you arrive. I know it's a bit of a nightmare with hairy horses but as long as you have plenty of baby wipes, white flannels, towels and a stain remover all will be well on the day. With our traditional we often end up washing his back end and hocks again at the showground as he always seems to poo on the journey. Purple shampoo is fab (try "touch of silver" shampoo for human grey hair) for white feather also Treseme deep cleansing shampoo. I have used thermatex type leg wraps overnight to keep legs clean. Hope this helps.

Thanks Scrat
He has leg wraps on over night in the field to try to keep him clean and he travels in these and hock boots, looking to buy some more wraps as he has destroyed the last pair, last weekend when he figured out how to unclip him self and then bronco over the other paddock as he couldnt figure how to get back to my other boys.
I havent yet tried him with travel boots, as he has cob width legs but still short so think they will stand too tall on him.
As you can see my other boy is a show cob so no hair to worry about, gotta get used to having a hairy one and find new techniques. Specially to get stains out as typical little boy, loves having green grass stained knees, lol.
