My old mare is coming back home for final retirement - at 21 she won't get insurance but I was wondering if I needed some basic cover for straying etc? I am sure I remember that if my horse got out, regardless of whether it was my/YO/passerby fault, I, as the owner, would be liable for any claims. Is this an urban myth or should I get this type of cover.

I am a member of BD if that might cover me? thanks!

You need public liability insurance as a bare minimum. You may well have this as part of BD membership, it is included with BHS Gold membership so check your membership documents. If not do take out a policy as a claim could run into millions if she strayed onto a road.
