Clipping rocks tommorow hopefully for the last time though last year had to clip him all through the summer ugh!! I usually take his legs off because i think it looks stupid having reaally hugely fluffy legs - makes him look like a native!! But he is a bit tricky with his legs i need someone to hold a leg up so he doesnt dance about but i have to do it alone tommorow so will be a mission
So the question is, legs on or off and why?xxx

I clip my cob's legs out completely. Partly because he suffers from mud fever and grease but also because he has a blanket clip as he sweats so much and, like you, i think he would look silly with fluffy legs

I clip all of my lot and bekka's lots legs out, but that isnt for looks,im not bothered what they look like, that is based on the fact that I should be hunting them at least once a week and its easier on me for washing them and keeping them clean.

I leave my cobs legs on because he would get mud fever if i clipped them off. I would rather mine looked silly than suffered with mud fever. Feathers are the natural drainage system

Same! And mine show in traditional classes so I need the feathers to stay long and fluffy.

I leave Harrys on as he lives out most of the time, and as said above, he needs his slight back-feather to protect him from the mud around here! However, i clip Eddie totally out, but thats just because it makes him look smarter (And he is in most of the time).

I always prefer legs left on, hate seeing horses without as I think they look like skinned chickens! Plus I think it's a bit better for them and specifically if it is just for looks think its a bit OTT

Off is smart and makes them look better when the hair grows back ... he is dancing around probably because you are tickling him with the vibrations next to his bone!! Have you got face/dog clippers as they are easier to get into the tendon parts and dont tickle as much! another tip is to pop on stable bandages/wraps to keep some heat in .. ever felt your horses legs in the morning when they have been shaved ... Colder than the ears!

Took ours off (and hogged) as he looked like a cart horse and now looks pretty sporty! He also sweats alot and having his legs clipped as well has helped reduce sweating. Was concerned about getting mud fever but he hasn't.

i leave my mares legs on but she lives out, and the only time she ever got mud fever was when we took her legs off. she grows feathers in the winter, and i think they are there for a reason in her case! sorry, not of much use to you but just my input.
