My mare has 4 white legs and I wash them the night before I hunt but I have to keep her stabled that night too (she normally lives out 24/7), to stop her getting her legs all dirty again overnight (if she hasn't rolled in grass/mud, she has caked her legs in sand from her sandpit - especially if it rains!!) - and I was toying with the idea of buying some leg wraps to put on her overnight and let her stay out in her field rather than stable her - and I wondered what fellow forum hunters thought of the idea?

And, if you did think it was a good idea, are there any particular wraps that you would recommend? I am conscious of the negative issues around putting wraps on with regard to heating tendons up etc, and the fact that she would be wearing them in a field rather than a stable too etc.

It was just an idea and I wanted to sound out your advice? Thanks very much in advance!

Good thinking Jen, why not! The only negative that springs to mind is washing her legs in the morning only for them to get filthy again a few hours later and then at the end of the day, I wash them down again! I know some people don't wash down at the end of the day but I like to in case of nicks, thorns etc. But when you think about it, there's not a ton of difference between doing this over a 12 as opposed to a 24 hour period.

I have seen your great advice on other posts too Jen, thank you very much for your help here.

exactly! I have to say, that I don't wash legs off after hunting. Instead I let the legs dry and then brush off well, and have a good feel for thorns and cuts etc at that point. also, I've found that doing that reduces the risk of mud fever.

glad I can be of some little assistance! :D
