My mare is in a fenced off section off the main field as we have so much grass. No problems until today! The fence was down and my mare was happily cavorting round the big field. Thing is, the tape had been dragged inwards not outwards so one of the other horses must have busted her out. It could have been a one off but if not, any suggestions? I need her in there for her bellys sake!

Yup!!! Know what you mean! Mine did the same a few mornings back: I posted on this forum under "Electric fencing disaster" - or similar, and someone (can't remember who) suggested that a good idea is to get some of the widest electric tape stuff you can get, and sew it into their rug so you get a bit on the outside, and also some touching the skin on the inside, so that basically if they do rub against the fence it goes "live". Ditto on grazing muzzles/headcollars etc.

Have a look at my post: it will be a few days ago now.

Sorry to hear your having problems! I have only the usual ideas I'm afraid:

* Ensure that its wirking properly all the way round, no earths.
* More posts closer together (this stopped my shetty climbing through, they were only 4
ft apart, had to go down to 2 ft!)
* More strands of tape
* Higher fence

Hopefully this will discourage whoever is attacking the fence. My anglo sytematically tests the fence all the time, by holding his muzzle very close but not close enough to touch. I think they can feel the electro magnetic field. Any weakness, he pulls it down!

Good luck! :D

and further to post by mijodsr2blinkintite, have seen someone who knots a piece of tape into her shetty's forelock, to acheive the same thing (my shetty's rug insulates him against the fence, thats when i have the most problem, but his forelock is so thick that in the dark, you can see the electric sparking blue against it but he doesn't feel it. However, he definately feels it elsewhere :D )

Problem is, if it's another horse busting in like I think it is, I can't really go fastening bits of electric tape onto other peoples horses. If it's the one I think it is he has no rug on anyway. Had thought about putting an additional fence outside the one thats there now to make it double width?

Was going to be another of my suggestions, but i forgot to put it down!!!!
I guess anything to try to put them off or give them an extra feel of the electric might work!!
