So after hearing a recent tragic story about a friend of a friend dying when her usually very quiet happy hacker horse spooked and the lady sadly got her foot caught in the stirrup, it has spurred me on to invest in some safety stirrups as my horse is only young.

I like the ones with the spikes in the treads. But I wondered if anyone has any experience with either the LeMieux Vector Balance Stirrup, or the Flexon Safety Stirrups? I’ve ridden in the Flexons before and they do help my foot feel secure, but the Vectors are much cheaper!

I’ve been looking at both of these too. I like the look of the le mieux but think they only come in one size that is only 11cm across which seems narrow??

Goodness that's so sad. Can't help with those two stirrups but mine are Acavello safety stirrups. Not sure if they are a game changer but hopefully they will do what they say on the tin if needed.

Oh that’s interesting. I guess as long as the safety release is good, the size shouldn’t be a problem in normal, non-chunky riding boots. I wonder if it’d be easier to ride in wider, or narrower stirrups?

I have the flex on safe on stirrups and wore them on fun rides all summer gone, they are worth every penny!! I cannot recommend them enough.
With that being said, I love them so much I switch them from one saddle to the other as they are so comfortable, so am considering buying a second pair of either flex ons or was considering the Lemieux vector balance (rather than the controls as the balance has the same angle foot bed to the flex ons, which I like as it secures my leg). Due to the price point and the advantage that if I were to fall I wouldn’t have to carry an Allen key around with me to Re secure the side of the stirrup (you would have to do this with the flex ons) I am considering a pair of Lemieuxs.

I fell off in my Flex on safe on’s and my foot was completely stuck. Luckily my horse is a saint and just stood there until I was rescued, but had I been hacking it would have been a different outcome! Feel sick thinking about it.
Nothing safe about these stirrups! I now ride in Acavallo because there’s no grip and the arm actually opens.
