I dragged my OH along with me because I'd been before and I thought he'd find it interesting. I wasn't going to buy because I'm about to move yards shortly and I'm saving hard to have the money for the lease up-front. Besides my OH is a sensible voice of reason so I knew I'd be OK. OMG! He was WORSE than me!!! :D He kept whispering in my ear "WE could have had that one!!"

The horses went SO cheaply too - we were both stunned, tbh! The start with the largest horses first and gradually reduce in size so lot number one was a 12yo 16.3 bay gelding. Good blurb - reliable and trustworthy horse, has hunted etc. He went for £650. Lot number two was an 11yo Belgian WB 16.3 mare. Very striking to look at, was ridden round the ring in a beautiful outline and really good blurb about her - she went for £1000. Lots of TB-types from 16.1 down to 15.1 all went for under £400 each - a lot being bought by number 330 so I really hope that he is a bringer-onner.... although I do fear the worst! Admittedly a lot of horses didn't reach reserve. A stunning 5yo traditional cob, who had been bathed so his mane, tail and feathers were Persil-white, only reached £1700. We had watched him being ridden and he wasn't fazed at all by the crowds and had cantered quite happily and popped a jump or two.

Just as well my OH knows we're saving hard or I think we may have come home with another mouth to feed.....

The next sale is on Friday 3rd Sept... so just two weeks. They've added in an extra due to overwhelming entries :( I wonder whether it's just the time of year or whether people are anticipating huge hay prices...

(Note to self: Do NOT go again in a fortnight)

Which is exactly why I no longer go to markets, as I would have to seriously sit on my hands.

Used to go to Derby market every 2 weeks and they had some quality looking horses and ponies through there. Obviously it's an unknown quantity buying from a market/sale, but the WB in particular sounded like a bargain :(

I hate markets. I wouldnt sleep for a week after going. All those wild scared eyes, diy farriery and boney horses! I find it so sad
