Horse had sudden swelling outside on his left hind leg. No lameness. As swelling went down during a couple of days, hard lump could be felt 5cm above fetlock on his suspensory area. Ultrasound showed lesion in his outside part of suspensory and damage to digital sheath. Vet is 100% positive he either had a hard impact on his leg or his leg got stuck. On palpation with a limb in a flexed position no pain reaction and vet said he’s not in pain. Now on strict box rest with hand grazing once a day and cold hosing 2x a day. Rescan in a month and then vet will decide if he will inject the lesion with something, not sure the name. Horse is used to being outside not sure how well will he cope. Any advice, experiences? At the moment of injury horse was in walk/trot work, and turned out in pasture. What should I hope to see in one month time? How long for swelling to completely go away? As swelling is firm and really hard, will it ever go away? I’m boomed. I planned to show jump him next year. Any advice greatly appreciated. X
