Tomorrow I have a lesson on the lunge to work on my position and seat. I only have them every couple of months but I really enjoy them- they're hard work but so beneficial. And it's nice to practice my sitting trot on something smoother and closer to the ground than Elvis!

Anyone else have lessons on the lunge every now and again?

Used to have them about once a month and found my riding improved greatly. Don't have them often now but agree they are hard work but so useful x

I learnt to ride on the lunge. I didn't want to ride but my sister kept throwing me up on her horse and sending me round in circles and eventually it grew on me! I can't remember when I was given reins and allowed to steer, I think it was when I failed miserably at learning to canter on a circle - her solution was to send me to the bottom of the field she always galloped in and I learned to hang on that way! Haven't been on the lunge since, apart from a few sessions at college, but I would certainly like to again. Unfortunately my horse won't tolerate it!

Tinselface and Jo1987- I can't do them on Elvis either- last time we tried, some sheep looked at him funny and he sent me orbiting.

So I have them on a RS horse. It means I don't worry about what might happen and I can work solely on myself. Maybe you two could look into doing that? Or borrowing a friends if they are more suitable?
