How much would you guys be willing to pay for a lesson with a BHSII (and this is pretty much guaranteed or occasionally the nearly qualified II (just got last part to do) for a maximum group of 3 people on decent horses for an hour?

And all of these instructors have vast amounts of experience, regularly competing BD/BE and getting tuition themselves from some of the best in the country.

Oh and bear in mind the north/south cost divide?

If this is in a riding school so you don't bring your own horse then anything from £20 to £30ish depending on how effective the instructor is, the quality of the horses and the level of the other two riders in the group.

If it was private lesson on own horses then perhaps £25 -35 in total (shared by the participants) including the travel costs.

In London I paid £33 for a 1 hour group lesson with a BHSAI. For a more qualified instructor I would have had to have a private lesson costing £42 for 1 hour.

If the instructors really knew their stuff (i.e. competing AM + or trined students to a high level) and were able to manage a group of 3 well and differentiate their teaching within the group, plus the horses were very good (and by that I mean correctly trained to medium level at the very least, established and not so stiff that you spend the first half of the lesson actually loosening them off) I would pay £30.

Less than that i.e. small groups with a fairly decent instructor, on old ex comp horses stiff and/or incorrectly trained £20 tops.

I would rather pay more money for better horses/instructors and private lessons on a less frequent basis

thanks guys - most of the figures you've quoted are what I had in mind - max being £30

Best go practice my pleading face yet again
