Me and my instructor are more friends than anything else so i dnt mind, its normally only her other half regarding her kids so i dnt mind that.
Social calls def not.
My instructor was riding my horse for me one day (during my lesson) and one of his friends turned up, so he left the menage (still on my horse) and went to the gate and had a chat with his mate (still on my horse!)
Thank god you agree, my instructor seems to think this is perfectly ok! and I just do not want to continue with him anymore, he has often ignored me for ages during lessons and left me to my own devises while he just stares into space, then last week he started calling and texting right in the middle of the lesson! my OH keeps telling me he is taking the piss and I should bin him so I thought I would just make sure I am not being over sensitive,
No I certainly wouldn't be happy with that. My instructor doesn't even bring his phone to my lessons, the one time he took a phone call it was the plumber for some emergency and he apologised profusely.
Mine does not make calls but will take them sometimes depending on who is ringing. Does not worry me as I still get the same lesson and I know its only the important calls that are taken.
If it was an instructor who stuck to the exact time, the call was just chat and I the time was not made up I would not be impressed, but we don't work to set times so its no problem.
errrrrrrrrrr no, they can't help calls coming in, but everyone i have would either not answer or click to answerphone or pick up and tell person to phone back LATER!!
It's not on. I am paying for their time and expect their full attention. If they cannot cope without their phone for one hour then they either an attention span problem or a total lack of respect for the person who is using their services.
There are many instructors out there, so don't settle for one who can't even pretend to be paying attention.
I don't mind the phone being answered to say "can't talk I'm teaching", but usually a telephone conversation or texting would be totally unacceptable to me. I say usually because There is one trainer who took me on to help me sort a particular problem - we sorted it but have carried on with some lessons (mostly during in the winter as she isn't usually available the rest of the year). She told me at the outset that she no longer generally teaches because she has so many demands on her time that she can't guarantee to be able to stick to the agreed times (e.g. I could arrive and find the lesson can't begin for an hour after the agreed time) and she may get called away part way through a lesson. I told her that since she had been open about that and I was willing to accept it, that it was fair. She is always a bit late, but usually no more than 15 minutes or so, she sometimes is called away for a while in the middle of a lesson (she runs a large yard which encompasses competition horses and a riding school) and she has taken phone calls during lessons (but only important ones e.g. unusual query about expensive for sale competition horse).
I have to say that I realised during our last lesson a couple of weeks ago that it was annoying me. I think this is because I need her less, but I made an informed choice, so I can hardly complain. I wouldn't accept this under any other circumstances, but I pursuaded her to teach me because she feared her other demands made it unacceptable. I use two other instructors and they would both only every reply to their phone to say they were teaching and would speak later.
Well mine has just started doing this, not like all lesson, but cos I have only been doing it a little while I get really paranoid like maybe he is texting and having a laugh at my expense. I do like my instructor though!
A riding instructor should be supervising the student(s) and should not have their mobile phone turned on while teaching as this would clearly be a distraction.
All British Horse Society and British Riding School approved instructors should be aware of this.
In the event of an accident occuring while the instructor was using their mobile phone then the instructor and their employee could face serious consequences.
